Saw Incredible Things and had Fantastic Experiences

Our tour in Haida Gwaii with Midnight Sun was an excellent experience, we learned and saw so much in a short time.

Everything went well from the beginning…Nina was very thorough with all the paperwork, making the process easy.

David was an excellent guide…and everything went so smoothly. We saw incredible things and had fantastic experiences because David, knew where to go, he has connections and his love and respect for Haida Gwaii is clear. We felt completely taken care of and shown so much, we learned a lot and felt quite grateful for his leadership and knowledge

The accommodation was very good at all three places. At Jags in Skidegate, incredible sunrises…we were sad not to be able to enjoy the much praised breakfast at Jag’s cafe, but our coffee conversation with Jags gave us much more than food…stories and knowledge. Haida House in Tlell, being close to the ocean and a river was very special as was the cooked breakfast. Ben our personal chef at Alaska View in Masset made us feel so welcome and taken care of, the food and service was so beautiful with a view from the dining room that takes your breath away.

The food…some absolute gems…dinner at Keenawail’s Kitchen was gorgeous to the eyes, and the ears (hearing about the food we were served) and the palate. Salmon everywhere (Ben’s was excellent), halibut, and the surprise on the last night of crab on the beach at a friend of David’s who treated us as friends and family.

The Island, the trees, the water, the air, the eagles, the ravens…the history in remains of a village, the horrors of colonization, the tales of the totems and the Haida people…and the trees…and paths made so you can walk among the trees and not damage the forest floor…Haawa to the builders of these for giving us a way to experience the trees.

And the art…the carvers who make those magnificent totems, and argillite pieces and the painters who set the Haida symbols and colours alive on a canvas.

Too many pictures to post…and so many are on-line…but truly an amazing tour it was, being on Haida Gwaii and being able to see and experience and learn so much.

Unforgettable

An unforgettable week on Haida Gwaii, meeting with Haida carvers and other artists, Skidegate’s internationally renowned museum, hiking along rainforest trails, heartache tours through abandoned, moss-covered villages in Gwaii Haanas, humpback whales, comfortable lodgings, meals to suit a range of diets, a treasure chest of crafts in Masset, and much more, all led by our guide David, whose easy, relaxed style, flexibility and knowledge made for a lifetime of memories.

Amazing Experience

Hi Scott, I had an amazing experience, at every step.

The lodge hosts were very welcoming, accommodating and kind. I had a delicious supper my first night and enjoyed the uniqueness and warm atmosphere of the lodge. My breakfast was excellent, as well. Delicious egg dish and tasty bacon, too.

The excursion with Sea Wolf was incredible. I was fortunate to have a pretty diverse group of people on the tour.  Our guide and deckhand, Karissa and Tyler, were top notch. I would book that experience again. Highly recommended.

I enjoyed my time at your property. Warm atmosphere, kind people, tasty food and a great view. I’d stay at Alert Bay Lodge again. If the opportunity happens and will recommend it to colleagues and friends.

Hope the rest of summer treats you well.

Absolutely Loved It!

I toured Haida Gwaii with Midnight Sun Adventure in July 2025 and absolutely loved it! David was an amazing guide with so much knowledge to impart and the wisdom to know when to let us just explore. I got to experience the beautiful nature, experience Haida cultural and art and just generally revel in the place. I had so many experiences that I doubt I could have found on on my own. Thank you!

Spectacular

My trip on Haida Gwaii in July with Midnight Sun was spectacular. Our driver/guide was extremely knowledgeable and took us to wonderful places we would never have found on our own. Highlights included a tour of artist/carver Christian White’s longhouse carving shed and a day-long boat trip with Haida guides who answered innumerable questions about the history, culture, present and future aspirations of the Haida Nation. Spectacular beaches, deep forests and soaring eagles abound. It was a priceless trip

Outstanding!

Haida Gwaii, July 2025: Outstanding! All aspects of the tour were even better than expected. David, our guide, was knowledgeable, thoughtful, helpful, and obviously connected to the local community. We were a small group, which was wonderful, and made everything easier, for us at least. Accommodations were outstanding, and the food was top class. What a learning experience! I highly recommend Midnight Sun Travel for your trip to Haida Gwaii.

The Trip of a Lifetime on Haida Gwaii

July 2025 • Friends

I was prepared to fall in love with Haida Gwaii – but I was caught off-guard by our Tour Guide. He was fantastic: a true professional, with a deep knowledge of the culture and the geography of Haida Gwaii, and extremely patient, as all of us were Seniors.

He would put forward an ambitious schedule each morning at breakfast – which he willingly amended when requested by the group.

Amazing Haida Gwaii

Thank you to David, Vivian, Heather, and Jay for an enjoyable week on Haida Gwaii. David was an attentive and knowledgeable tour guide, sharing his vast knowledge about the flora and fauna, Haida culture, and geography of the islands. Viv was attending the tour for a second time, and Heather and Jay had long-held dreams of visiting the islands.

I was looking to learn more about the Haida culture and their territory as well as spend time in a place not affected by the summer heat and wildfire smoke of other parts of BC and North America. Highlights include – Haida Style boat trip to the village sites of Ḵ’uuna Llnagaay (Skedans) and T’aanuu Llnagaay – walking in the forests and along beaches – Saahlinda Naay – the Haida Gwaii Museum in Skidegate – meals at KEENAWAII’S KITCHEN (Roberta Olsen) in Skidegate, at the home of Trevor and Myrna in Old Massett, fish and chips in Daajing Giids – Jag’s Coffeeshop and Guest Rooms in Skidegate – visiting the carving sheds of 7idansuu Jim Hart and Kihlyaahda Christian White as well as the home of artist SGaana Jaad April White.

I usually travel to more urban places and create my own itinerary, but I found this small group van tour to be perfect for getting to know Haida Gwaii, with its small communities and wilderness areas. David and Midnight Sun Tours were able to take us places and offer experiences that we may have missed otherwise. We flew into Sandspit and out of Massett Airport. I was surprised that many shops and restaurants were open limited days and hours, despite it being the summer tourist season. I suggest that if you travel there, if you like something, you purchase it when you first see it because you may not see it in another shop. The days were generally a mix of sun and clouds, with just a few rain showers. I was happy in a t-shirt or light sweater most of the time, but other members of the group wore layers of clothing and jackets. Visitors to Haida Gwaii are asked to sign a pledge and respect Haida Ways of Being: 1. Yahguudang • Yahguudáng – Respect for all Beings 2. Ad kyaanang • Ahl kyáanang tláagang – Ask Permission First 3. Tll yahdah • Tll yahda – To Make it Right 4. Gina ‘waadluuxan gud ad kwaagid • Gin ‘wáadluwaan gud ahl kwáagiidang – Everything Depends on Everything Else Finally, thank you to the Haida people for allowing us to be guests on their unceded traditional territory. Haida Gwaii Tours for Seniors

I went on the Haida Gwaii tour to learn about the history and culture of Haida civilization…and that is exactly what I got out of it! I was very pleased that my cravings of curiosity were totally fulfilled with this trip. It is a very interesting experience, especially for those who want to take a trip to learn new things. Plus, a few of the Haida meals are now some of the most memorable and unique culinary experiences I’ve ever had!

One of the best trips we have ever taken

Our recent (July 2024) Midnight Sun Adventure Travel trip to Haida Gwaii was one of the best trips we have ever taken. Haida Gwaii is a unique cultural destination and the small group (5 people) tour offered visits to traditional ancient village sites and museums as well as boat trips and hiking to see both wildlife and coastal forests. Being able to travel in an SUV with a guide allows for flexible touring!

Our guide David Hopper kept us on schedule (without rushing us) despite changeable weather and the local weather conditions. David is sensitive to the local Haida culture and very familiar to unique opportunities and activities that an independent traveler would not be aware of. He knows the shops and artisans and he kept us busy seeing canoe building, carving, and other crafts plus interesting walks and beach combing. The food was wonderful – lots of fresh seafood plus the opportunity to try native foods. Some meals were included- some at our choice – which was a good mixture. Hearing about Haida culture from the local tribal people was an especially great treat. Highly recommend the tour company.

Our Amazing Guide/Driver

We were a group of six with our amazing guide/driver David Hopper and a seven seater vehicle, this enabled us to go off road and see things not possible for larger tour groups. David is an excellent guide, he shared the history and culture of Haida Gwaii, and took us to so many interesting places. He is well respected by the local people, and has many contacts so we were made welcome everywhere. We were even invited to dinner by a local family. A great trip.
